Expert: Smartphone sales fall 29% on year in cash in April

MOSCOW, May 27 (PRIME) -- Smartphone sales in Russia decreased by 50% on the month and by 29% on the year in April in money as the average price fell to 15,250 rubles in April from 17,770 rubles in March, Anna Shebek, head of the telecom sector at researcher GfK Rus, said on Wednesday.

“The introduction of quarantine in April significantly cut sales on the smartphone market in units by 24% against April 2019 and by 42% against March,” Shebek said.

“The average price of a smartphone in April went down by 6% against the average price in April 2019. The premium segment (with the price above 50,000 rubles), most growing in March, showed a 28% fall in units in April in comparison to the same month of 2019,” she said.

Online sales soared by more than 70% in April on the year in comparison to a 38% rise in March.
